Indigenous peoples in Canada

On May 16th, Allison, who is an ALT of Hiyoshigaoka High School and from Canada made a presentation of the culture and the history of indigenous peoples in Canada.

We learned so many things about them. We were surprised that there are more than 600 groups of indigenous people, and they are divided into 6 major regions. They have their own languages as well as cultures. Our new finding was that the totem pole and Kayak were originally from indigenous culture in Canada.

There are so many things that we still don’t know in the world. It is so exciting to learn that we live in a world full of variety and wonder.

カナダの先住民について（ALT　アリソン先生）
去る５月１６日（火）放課後、本校ALTでカナダ出身のアリソンさんによるカナダの先住民の文化や歴史についてのプレゼンテーションがありました。カナダの先住民は、６１７もの民族に分かれていることやそれらの民族が大きく６つの地域に分かれることや、それぞれの地域ごとの文化や歴史について学びました。今回のアリソン先生のプレゼンテーションをお聞きして、トーテムポールやカヤックなどがカナダの先住民の文化から始まったことを初めて知ることが出来ました。世界にはまだまだ知らないことがたくさんあることを実感することが出来ました。
